Basic Rules:

Goal:
The goal of American football either is to move the ball to the opponent’s goal zone with passes or runs with the ball until the opponent tackles the ground and finally puts it in the box goals (a touchdown). There are 11 player from each team on the field at any time.

Downs:
Downs are the most fundamental part of the NFL game. The offensive team advances the ball in sections of at least 10 meters. They have four chances (or tries) to win those 10 yards. Whenever the ball is advanced at least 10 meters out of 4 chances, another first down is won, with four other chances of exceeding 10 yards. If the offensive team fails to move 1 yard in the four tries, possession is returned. However, the ball is usually returned to the defending team on the fourth attempt.

Timing:
·         Four quarters
·         Three time-outs per half for each team
·         12min part time
·         15 additional minutes of sudden death if scores are tied notation

To score Points:
·         A touchdown is worth six points and is scored when a team crosses the opposing goal line with the ball, or catches or recovers the ball in the end zone.
·         A goal in the field is worth three points. Field goals are usually attempted on the fourth attempt if the kicker is close enough to the end zone to allow the ball to pass through the posts.
·         An extra point is gained by hitting the ball between the posts after a touchdown. The team can score two points by bringing the ball back to the end zone.
·         Two points are awarded to the defensive team for safety when a member of the offensive team is attacked with the ball in his own goal zone.

Field:

The field measure 100 yards (1 yard = 0,9m) with two end zone. The playing field will be bordered by a white border along the bottom lines and sidelines. There is an extra broken yellow line outside this boundary along each sideline in areas other than the benches. This broken line will continue at one corner of each 30-yard line and will pass behind the bench area at a distance of six feet. In each end zone, this broken yellow line is six feet from the plain white border. In addition, in each playing area, a continuous yellow line located six feet behind the fixed boundary marks a special area for coaches, behind which all players must remain.
